Silvina Valz

Creative Director, Instructor

2007 - Present

Silvina Valz, considered today, a rising star within the world of prominent female tango professionals of our time, believes each movement in Tango to be an expression of an inner feeling.

It is her ability to communicate these expressions using the refined sensibility of her body language, which distinguishes her from many other artists.  Ms. Valz possesses an uncanny ability to emphasize, punctuate and detail her every feeling, even within her often times, barely visible, minute movements.

Among a long list of professional accomplishments, her most personally revered have been her years of teaching children with visual impairments to dance Tango at the National School for the Blind in Paris.  Ms. Valz’ passionate desire to make a difference in the lives of these children stems, in part, from a very particular, highly personal, experience.  As a child growing up in Argentina, Ms. Valz recalls her adored mother’s repeated lament, “her eyes just bother her a little bit”.  It was not until reaching young adulthood Ms. Valz realized her mother was, in reality, almost totally blind, her simple explanations of her disability to her children, an attempt to keep them from the pain of its realization. Ms. Valz considers it an honor she has been gifted with the knowledge and opportunity to teach this art form to these young students.

Ms. Valz, most noted for her passionate and rigorous approach to teaching, brings with her the determination and fortitude of an experienced athlete.  Formerly a nationally recognized gymnast in Argentina, she has also studied and practiced the art of aerial body tightrope dance, “Dancevoltage” under the guidance of Oliver Farge in Paris. Currently based in the United States, she has lived and taught Tango in Paris, France since 1998.  Ms. Valz is also an experienced choreographer and actress having applied her craft in the Theatre National Antoine Vitez.

Classically trained in ballet and modern jazz, Ms. Valz has been practicing the art of Argentine Tango for over 10 years.  Her studies and practice began simultaneously with many considered the great masters of Tango in Buenos Aires, including Pepito Avellaneda, Gustavo Naveira.  In recent years she has traveled the world, partnering with Dany Garcia, a professional with over 60 years experience, performing and teaching the most historically significant forms of Tango, named Milonga Traspie and Candombe.  Demonstrating her ability to master these genres of the dance, the roots of which were developed by black Africans living in Buenos Aires in the late 1800’s, along with her exquisite style, have credited her with the revival of its history and beauty, bringing it to the public to rave reviews.

Silvina Valz has performed and taught Tango extensively all over the world including Europe, Japan, Buenos Aires and the United States.  Heralded as both an exquisite performer and instructor she has been invited to participate in almost all of the major Tango festivals held internationally.  Her list of performances over the last nine years has placed her alongside some of the finest dancers, orchestras and musicians of Argentine Tango, such as, Cacho Tirao, prominent guitar player to the world renowned composer, Astor Piazzola.

Ms. Valz, a visionary within her art, consistently professes a desire to share her knowledge of Argentine Tango in its purest form, understanding its value and the significance of its impact upon our lives.
